On Saturday 19th May, the world’s eyes were on Windsor – and Leycester House joined in the fun, holding our own celebrations for the Royal wedding! We planned everything down to the last detail, starting with handmade invitations for all residents to witness Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials, getting us all excited about the day’s proceedings.

The day came around very quickly, with residents and staff busy making bits and bobs to contribute to the big day, and it was most certainly worth all the hard work – just look at our stunning photos!

Residents donned their Sunday best and were greeted by beautiful floral displays in the bar, with tissue flowers made by residents dotted around, along with fresh flower arrangements on the tables. Everyone was given a bag of favours containing a handmade necklace and bracelet, a handmade shortbread biscuit and an activities sheet for the following week – it made it feel like we were all at a real wedding! The ladies were also given a fresh flower corsage made that morning by Dana, our activities assistant, so they really did look the part.

When the time came, everyone piled into the cinema room to witness the Royal wedding and were greeted with Champagne on arrival, then to celebrate, the team put on a lovely buffet for everyone to enjoy. The centrepiece was a stunning three-tier wedding cake made by Claire, complete with fresh scones, clotted cream and jam for a delicious afternoon tea.

The pièce de résistance that really topped off the day was the attendance of Frontera Quartet, a fantastic string quartet, playing for us all in the afternoon – what a treat! It’s fair to say that both the lead-up to the event and the day itself were a huge success and everyone had a fantastic time.
